So last year was a bit of a crazy awesome ride for me personally with my concept / fine art portraiture, which you can see more of at my dedicated website www.shannoncotterill.com
I have a separate website for that side of my work, as it's certainly very 'out there' & different to my wedding / newborn / family portrait style of photography!
The year started out with winning 1st place in the International Loupe Awards Illustrative category (which absolutely blew my mind!!) with the image "My Perfect Family"
It was so incredible & even sweeter given that the image was of my own (crazy) family
I then went on to enter 4 images in the Portrait category of the Australian Institute of Professional Photography Awards in May, and to my utter surprise (seriously, I was driving to the awards dinner in Sydney thinking I didn't have a CHANCE of taking it out) I came away with the title of 2015 NSW Portrait Photographer of the Year. To say I was beside myself with excitement / shock is an understatement! I felt truly honoured & it has certainly lit a fire in my belly to keep on creating & pushing boundaries with my image making.
Here are the 4 images that won it for me!
THEN when I didn't think my year could get much better, at the Australian Professional Photography Awards my images did well enough that I earned my Masters of Photography
Whoohooooooo (a huge goal of mine that I have been working towards since 2011 when I first started entering the Australian awards)
So looking back, 2015 was a truly incredible year for me professionally... I have to thank the gorgeous man standing next to me, my husband Anthony. I could not have done all that I do (with 3 kids and a business to run, and the odd bout of anxiety & "what the hell am I doing" thoughts which he always gets me through!) without all of his love & support - also my amazing partner in crime at the studio, the amazingly talented & supportive Kat Martin xx
I have big things planned for 2016, including my first ever solo photography exhibition on Saturday 7th May at the Grant Molony Art Gallery at Forresters Beach. I have so much work to do before then, but I am looking forward to 2016. Bring. It. Onnnnn.
P.S. Here are some "behind the scenes" images from a few of the concept sessions last year. A big HUGE shout out to Karen Dyer and Sahra Bull for all of their hair / makeup / body art talents bringing my crazy ideas to life. Thank you xx
Also a massive thank you to my beautiful models Erin & Brogan, it was such an inspiring day capturing you both & your heritage. It made me feel so very proud to be Australian & to honour the spirit of this beautiful land
